To Foreign Students Who Wish to Join Our Research Group as Master students, PhD students, or Research Students
Do not write to us immediately; Follow the procedures below.
- Check first the home page of our graduate school for formal procedures required for entering
the graduate school.
- Then read the home page of our research group to check whether your research interest matches
ours. Then, read at least one or two research papers, to see whether you have enough background to
understand them.
- Learn the admission fee, tuition, and average living cost in Japan, and check whether you can afford
to pay them. If not, apply for a scholarship by yourself. (For undergraduate or graduate studies, check the Japanese Government Scholarship.
For postdoc, we recommend
JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship.)
An exception for this is the case when you have publications in good international conferences or journals
on theoretical computer science, and are applying for the PhD course or for a postdoc position; in that case, we will seek for
a possibility to provide financial support with our own research fund.
- Only if you are sure that you are interested enough in our research area, have enough background
knowledge, and have enough financial support, write to us. To certify that you have read this
page and followed the procedures, include "[valid application]" in the subject of the message.
Note that we receive a lot of spam-like messages that only say "I am interested in xxx.
May I enroll the graduate school?" Those kinds of messages will be regarded as spams and just ignored.
If you are really interested in studying in our group, write
which of our research topics interested you, and what kind of research you'd like to conduct in our group.
Use specific terms, rather than general terms like "programming" and "software."
Also, please do not send us an email containing large files (say, more than 1 Mbyte) for the initial contact;
if necessary, we will request you to send us detailed documents (such as an academic transcription) later.
